Our Story

Small Talk was created from a simple idea (quite literally): What if I put my son’s favorite word on a shirt?

This phrase isn’t unique to him by any mean - it’s one that spans across the vocabulary of all toddlers. It’s one of the first words they truly own, using it with pride and persistence. And if you haven’t guessed it by now, that word is more

Once my son hit a certain age, everything became more (“moe” if you pronounce it like my son). More Berries, More Trucks, more this, more that… more more more. He was nonstop, so proud of himself every time he would say the word and accurately express his needs. The infamous ASL hand gesture accompanied each iteration of requests, reinforcing his ability to connect and be understood.

As a parent, I was always surprised by how much he had to say, and how few words he needed to say it. I realized I couldn’t be the only parent experiencing this, surely this is a common occurrence for most toddlers. And that’s when the idea clicked: put it on a tshirt. Not just the words, but the sign and image too. Something toddlers could “read” themselves. Something that would “speak” to them. And from that spark, Small Talk was born.

Each tee is thoughtfully designed to help little ones express themselves. Whether they’re signing, speaking, or still finding their first words, each shirt pairs a favorite toddler phrase with illustrations designed to be read by the child wearing it. Our shirts support early communication in a way that feels natural and empowering, helping them to build their confidence and connection with the world around them.

Before  launching Small Talk, I spent over a decade helping brands grow through the execution of integrated marketing strategies, client service and creative leadership. That experience in building trust, translating insight into action, and leading with care now informs every part of this brand. Small Talk is a personal project turned purpose-driven business: inspired by my own family and created to support yours.

We’re here to celebrate your little one’s unique voice, encourage connection, and of course, help them ask for more of what they love most.
